v-health XR

Gamified | Interactive | Virtual FES Therapy

v-health XR, our advanced muscle recovery platform, combines patented Functional Electrical Muscle Stimulation (FES) technology with a gamified user experience, supporting individuals in rebuilding muscle strength, mobility, and motor control.

With real-time motion stimulation in extended reality (XR) and intuitive app control, it’s designed to make muscle recovery engaging and adaptable. From helping with upper limb injuries to enhancing muscle re-education, v-health XR provides seamless, interactive experiences that empower users to take an active role in their recovery.

Key Features

  • By integrating Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) with Extended Reality (XR), v-health XR supports neuromuscular recovery through real-time muscle activation during virtual exercises. Using the hand-tracking capabilities of the virtual reality headset, patient movements are detected, and the targeted muscles are stimulated accordingly. This combination enhances muscle strengthening and promotes improved motor function.

  • Enhanced Patient Adherence through Gamification: Gamification enhances patient motivation and adherence by making it engaging rather than passive. The evidence-based game design, developed alongside clinicians and patients, encourages patients to participate in more sessions and repetitions.

More Repetition, More Recovery: By incorporating elements of gamification, we ensure that patients not only stick to their recovery routines but also perform more repetitions. The interactive nature promotes consistent use and supports long-term progress.

  • Personalised Intensity Control: Clinicians can adjust intensity, frequency, and pulse parameters according to each patient's needs and capabilities. v-health personalises challenges based on user progress, increasing the reward of each session.

Real-Time Adjustment: The platform allows clinicians to fine-tune settings and intensity levels in real-time, ensuring each session is appropriately challenging and effective.

  • eir bands: The wearable bands are lightweight, portable, and easy to use. With no wires, they are simple to attach with one hand, making them perfect for at-home or clinic-based use.

Clinician Interface & Games: The user interface is designed to be intuitive and straightforward. Clinicians can quickly set up the sessions, ensuring a seamless experience for both patients and healthcare professionals. We provide clinics with ongoing support and training.

“One of our biggest challenges as therapists, alongside increasing participation, is helping our clients with their health and well-being. My client tells me how much he enjoys our sessions. He can keep his hopes up, even when the going gets tough.

I've certainly been able to increase his training with the eir bands in recent months!”

— L. Redman, Neurotherapist

Early Feasibility Study

with Stroke Survivors & Spinal Cord Injury Patients

An early feasibility study of the v-health XR was conducted with 14 neurological patients, including spinal cord injury and stroke survivors, in four clinics across the UK and Belgium.

Patients played four XR games and one mobile game, each supported by functional electrical stimulation (FES) for hand and wrist mobility. The sessions, lasting 10-15 minutes, received positive feedback:

  • Patients preferred the XR games due to the real-time feedback between movement intent and stimulation.

  • Clinicians valued the ease of setup and the ability to adjust parameters in real-time for tailored rehabilitation.
